2007 North Allegheny Graduate Dies After Routine Dental Surgery

Marek Lapinski played football for North Allegheny and Duquesne University.

A graduate and former football player for North Allegheny and Duquesne University has died after undergoing a routine dental procedure.

According to WPXI, Marek Lapinski, 24, who was living in California, died over the weekend while having his wisdom teeth removed.  

Lapinski tweeted on March 20 that he was undergoing the surgery and WPXI said he visited his family in Pittsburgh beforehand. His exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

Lapinski was a running back and 2007 graduate of North Allegheny.

"Marek was an outstanding young man," said North Allegheny Athletic Director Bob Bozzuto. "He was a 2 year captain that played fullback and linebacker for us. A truly sad story."

Lapinski attended Duquesne, where he was a four-year starter on the football team. Lapinski holds a bachelor's degree from Duquesne in business administration with a double major in finance and investment management, according to his company's website

KDKA reports that Lapinski helped start the company Total 3rd Dimension, or T-3D, an advanced technology used for military vehicles.

He was vice president of finance and business strategy, the T-3D website said.
