Why Go: Meet Santa for lunch and have your picture taken on his lap. You'll also make a cute holiday craft. Be sure to bring a camera and a list for Santa. Pre-registeration is encouraged at 412-364-4115 ext. 347.

When/Where: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Fern Hollow Nature Center, Sewickley Heights.
Why Go: Bob Van NewKirk, a volunteer with the Audubon Society of Western PA, will present this 90-minute interactive program using props and posters. Meet some live owls visiting from WildBird Recovery (Valencia, PA). For children 6 and up. Registration required.
Admission: $7 members/$10 non-members
When/Where: 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at 1391 Duncan Ave.
Why Go: This meeting will address how the closure of Peebles Elementary will impact the rest of the North Allegheny district, how to best express your concerns to school board members, and how to get the message out to other members of the community. Why Go: Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra based in McCandless will perform its Christmas concert. The country's largest mandolin orchestra will be performing traditional American and international holiday tunes, as well as a suite from "The Nutcracker."
Admission: $7 adults; $5 seniors; free for children 12 and under.
