Update: Human Remains Found in Cranberry Township Taken to Mercyhurst University
A man walking toward Cranberry Mall found the remains Saturday afternoon.
A forensic anthropology team from Mercyhurst University in Erie is assisting Cranberry Township Police in identifying human remains found Saturday afternoon in a wooded area along Dutilh Road.
A man walking from UPMC Passavant-Cranberry to a Cranberry Mall found the skeletal remains about 2:30 p.m. on hospital property near Dutilh United Methodist Church (see map). Officers said clothing indicates the remains were that of a man and that there was no apparent cause of death.
The remains have been taken back to Mercyhurst for further analysis, KDKA-TV reported.
“We’ll do a complete forensic anthropological analysis of it to determine the age, the sex, the stature, the ancestry, and then take a look at trauma, for example, and do a careful analysis of that,” Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat, of Mercyhurst University, told KDKA.
Currently, according to police, there are no missing person reports in Cranberry.
