Visions For Vacancy: 551 Blazier Drive

The former Bally's Health Club has been vacant for more than a year.

Fidelity Bank owns two large buildings along Blazier Drive in McCandless. One of them, Trader Horn, has enjoyed a steady customer base for years. The other, not so much.

The last long-term tenant of 551 Blazier Drive was Bally's Health club. When LA Fitness opened in McCandless Crossing, Bally's quickly closed.

Fidelity paid $4,000,000 in 2011 for the 19 acre site, according to the Allegheny County real estate web site. The site lists the currently property value at $2,850,000.

Bruce Betty, Land Use Administrator for the town of McCandless, said there are no current plans for the property, but officials are hoping eventually to redevelop the entire area.

How about a couple of baseball/soccer fields or a recreation center? I know it's close to N. Park, but McCandless Crossing is developing townhouses where the McCandless Athletic Assn used to have a ball field for the 12 yr old league. I think we have enough shopping centers.
