As a member of the Rockland Water Coalition that formed 6 years ago to put an end to thisRead Moreill-concei ved plan by Suez/ United Water I fully appreciate this exposé Mr. Tormey. The plan is shocking to all that hear of it, and laughable to some as it is so absurd, but it is a most serious matter. All the needed water is here in Rockland, with among the highest rainfall in NY State. We fundamentally need better water management. The reporting in this article raises many of the issues that were presented before the Public Service Commission last week in 2 hearings with nearly every Rockland elected and an estimated 1,600 citizens attending, in opposition to Suez/ United Water's desalination proposal, and to their business practices overall. We call upon readers in every part of the Northeast to join in calling upon officials to watch this corporation more carefully, and to become more informed. Suez/ United Water is are shaking hands all over the region, seeking deals in both water and wastewater service. They pave their way with global funding power, they then fail to provide expected service, then then use the same power to out litigate state and local authorities. It's a documented pattern across the US. The corporation is a relative new comer in NYS, this is the time to take heed. Rockland is leading the way. We are asking that that our Governor do the right thing and 1) end the desalination plans 2) make sure that this corporation is not tolerated in its methodology of profiting at the hardship and expense to the citizens. The Rockland Water Coalition organization members include Food & Water Watch, Sierra Club, Clearwater, Hudson Riverkeeper, NY Public Interest Group, Scenic Hudson, Hudson River Fishermen's Association and 25 other major organizations. This Coalition is doing what others said could not be done. Follow us on Facebook. Learn more: www.nodesal.com

Now, may I ask if Wendy's finally joined a number of other fast food vendors and agreed to a one cent a pound increase in what they paid people busting their chops in the hot Sun to gather those tomatoes? The suits were concerned it might hurt their bottom line.
