ST. ALPHONSUS STUDENTS RAISE OVER $6,000 FOR THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Wexford, PA—May 15, 2014—Students in grades K – 8 at St. Alphonsus School in Wexford, PA, raised $6,021.98 through their participation in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart Program. Students collected donations from family and friends in support of the event, which included a week of jump-rope activities led by St. Alphonsus gym teacher Matthew Kuntz.

Students were encouraged to attempt multiple styles of jumping during their gym classes, including the "running man," single and double jumps, heel jumping, and even jumping rope while sitting. Students earned rewards for their donations, including various colorful rubber ducks, jump ropes, and Pirate tickets.

Through the Jump Rope for Heart program, the American Heart Association strives to teach students how the heart works, how exercise affects their hearts, and how they can stay fit for life. Approximately 80 percent of the funds raised during the event go directly to the mission, funding extensive research efforts, heart education, and programs to help us all live healthier lives.
