Nestle Recalls Nesquik Powder in Canisters from U.S. Stores

The voluntary recall involves Nesquik powder only — no other products, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Nestlé USA has announced a voluntary recall of some quantities of its Nesquik Chocolate Powder mix stocked in stores nationally due to a potential risk of Salmonella contamination.

The voluntary recall involves only Nesquik powder sold in 10.9-ounce, 21.8-ounce and 40.7-ounce canisters since early October, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It does not involve other sizes of Nesquik powder or Nesquik ready-to-drink products, according to the FDA.

Affected products bear the UPC codes 0 28000 68230 9, 0 28000 68090 9 or 0 28000 67990 3.

The company ordered the recall after learning that a component used to make the powder may have been contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause abdominal ailments. Salmonella can be fatal to elderly people, babies and people with compromised immune systems.

No illnesses related to the powder have been reported, Nestle said.

If you purchased one of the recalled containers, return it to the store where you bought it for a refund or contact Nestle Consumer Services at 1-800-628-7679.
