Update: Weather Service Drops Warning about Icy Roads in the Region

Rain earlier Wednesday triggered several accidents.

The National Weather Service has dropped its special weather statement warning of icy road conditions in Allegheny and surrounding counties Wednesday morning.

The rain, which created some icy conditions, has moved out of the region.

According to the NWS, several counties reported ice on roads due to surface temperatures being below freezing, despite the fact that air temperatures are in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Pittsburgh Post Gazette traffic reporter Jon Schmitz said on Twitter that multiple crashes had been reported on Route 28 in Tarentum due to the icy roads. He also reported that more than 50 crashes had occurred in Butler County since 10 a.m.
