Class Size Remains Concern for Some North Allegheny Parents

One parents suggested lower class sizes at the beginning of the year to allow for additional students who may move into the North Allegheny district during the semester.

Throughout the 2012-2013 school year, the North Allegheny School board heard numerous complaints about the large class sizes in some of the district's elementary school.

As the new school year approaches, parents at the July 17 meeting reminded board members of their promise keep class sizes under control.

Kathy Evans was one of several parents to ask to change third grade from an intermediate grade with a limit of 30 students to a primary grade with a limit of 25 students.

She told the board she feared her son, who is entering third grade, might end up in another class with 28 or more students.

School Board President Maureen Grosheider said the administration is checking enrollment numbers regularly, and urged any parent who has moved into the district, to sign up now. (see video)

Another parent, Chris Disque, suggested lower class sizes at the beginning of the year to allow for additional students who may move into the North Allegheny district during the semester.
