McCandless Crossing Update: Weather Slows Site Preparation

A rainy summer has played havoc with the construction schedule of the fourth and final phase of the mixed-used development in McCandless.

AdVenture Project Manager Bob McGurk is in a seemingly endless battle with mother nature.

McGurk is the man in charge of finishing site preparation work for the fourth and final phase of McCandless Crossing. And the weather has rarely cooperated.

Construction on some of the anchor tenants, including a Dick's Sporting Good store, a HomeGoods store, a Cinemark theater, several restaurants and 53 Ryan townhouses was expected to begin in early September. But the site preparation isn't complete.

"It seems like every couple of days this summer we'd get a heavy rain, and we lose one or two days until things dried out," said McGurk during a tour of the site back in July.

The weather in August didn't improve.

"Awful," Kevin Dougherty, President of AdVenture Development told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Muddy and cloudy and rainy. It's probably the worst construction season in a long, long, long time. But despite that, we are making good progress."

Work is also progressing on widening access lanes along Duncan Avenue, McKnight Road, Cumberland Road, and Babcock Boulevard.
